Cooking is one of the most favorite kids pretend game. Making your own toy encourages creative thinking and improves self confidence for kids. That's why we decided to build our own small kitchen.
It is not only about the fun, the kids will have, while playing with it at the end, but also about what they will learn during the design and the problem solving skills they will gain while building.
First we had a large size heavy duty box, and covered it with duct tape to make it sturdy and in one color.
For the sink, we used an old plastic bowl, and for the water tap/faucet, we used an empty hand soap bottle. Also made a sponge holder on the sink.
We made a utensils hanger, by making a hole in L shaped cardboard, and insert any bendable stick/pipe cleaner inside it, to be easily bended and shape a hanger of it. Then, put some glue and cover it with another cardboard piece.
We got this cooking kit toy and used the stove part of it, and the other tools.
Then made an oven door, and painted the whole box with some dot painting, using a cotton swab stick.
We used a bottle cap to act as the oven thermostat knob.
Make your kitchen by materials you have and by your own design, and let the fun begin!
